Spider Proofing - How to get rid of spiders and protect yourself from White Tailed and other spiders

  1. Whitetail Spiders are hunting spiders and like to hide in dark dry areas. The roof void is often the place that these spiders lurk and build their nests. Spray the roof voids with residual insecticide NO Bugs Super or NO Spiders, both available in a concentrate or a ready to use trigger spray or use a bug bomb fumigator NO Bugs Bug Bombor Borafumeif the voids are hard to access.
  2. Spray interior areas where spiders have been seen and corners of ceilings, around doors and window frames, skirting, under and behind furniture, in clothes cupboards and hot tank cupboards.
  3. Spray exterior areas where webbing has accumulated (do not remove webbing until one week after spraying). Spray eaves, around windows and doors, vents, downpipes, wall bases, washing lines and decks.

NO Bugs Super contains the active ingredient Deltamethrin and NO Spiders contains Permethrin which are both potent, safe and UV stable synthetic pyrethroid insecticides.

Unlike the active ingredients in most fly sprays with ingredients that break down in UV light rapidly (sometimes less than three hours), Deltamethrin is UV stable and will retain its residual insecticidal efficacy for up to four months even in full direct sunlight. It is consequently very useful for treating the spiders around both the outside and inside of your house.

In general insects are one thousand times more susceptible to Deltamethrin than other ingredients and white tailed spiders are no exception to this rule as they are particularly susceptible to Deltamethrin.

Kiwicare's NO Bugs Super available in a ready to use 500ml trigger spray or concentrate form contain Deltamethrin. Just follow the easy to read instructions on the product for application around the home, and enjoy the peace of mind created by knowing that your home is protected from the particularly nasty White Tail Spider.

NO SPIDERS CONCENTRATE

Safe, effective surface spray provides control of spiders for up to 2 months outside or 3 months indoors.  Spider proof your home. NO Spiders flushes Whitetail spiders from their hiding places and as they walk over the treated surfaces they will die.  Spray exterior areas such as spouting, gutters, windows, doors, under eaves, and ventilators. Interior spray around windows, doors, corners, and areas where spiders have been noticed. NO Spiders is effective against spider mites and other insects in ornamentals and conifer.

NO Bugs Super is an excellent broad spectrum insecticide giving long term control of most crawling and flying insects and spiders. This is a good alternative to NO Spiders Products.

NO BUGS SUPER PROFESSIONAL STRENGTH

This stronger than normal residual insecticide is used by professionals to control pest insects and spiders in more difficult situations.

NO BUGS BUG BOMB

Use this product for a quick knockdown of insects such as, Borer on the wing, Silverfish, Booklice, Weevils, Moths, Fleas, Flies, present in the room at the time of release.  To maintain a bug free environment use No Bugs Bug Bomb in conjunction with the appropriate long term treatment such as Kiwicare NO Bugs Super, NO Borer, NO Fleas Total.

Classroom Clips

  • Scorpions are probably the spider's oldest land relative. Fossils many hundreds of thousands of years old have been found.
  • There are over 50,000 species of spiders recorded world wide, with sizes ranging from 0.33mm to 100mm.
  • New Zealand's largest spider is the Avondale spider DELENA.
  • Very few species are venomous, those that are include the New Zealand Katipo, Funnel Webs, Black Widows and Tarantulas.
  • TARANTULAS are the world's largest spiders measuring up to 100mm. These large spiders may live up to 20 years. Incredibly aggressive, they even kill small birds but are relatively harmless to humans.
  • Fear of spiders is called ARACHNOPHOBIA.
  • Spiders are ferocious and aggressive predators, paralysing their prey with piercing fangs, almost always eating their prey alive. Many species are cannibalistic. Males in particular have to be very careful at mating time in case they too are eaten.
  • Females are normally much larger than the males.
  • Spiders are fierce hunters, with strong jaws and sharp eyes.
  • Exceedingly sensitive to web vibrations, spiders can distinguish between prey (food), foreign bodies and family.
  • Some species such as Wolf Spiders (Lycosa) do not spin webs. They are, however, fierce hunters and stalk their prey like cats or tigers.
  • Life span of most spider species can normally be measured in months due to the astronomically high attrition rate to birds, frogs, wasps, lizards etc. It appears however, that the larger the species, the longer the life span. (See Tarantulas above)
  • Spider silk threads are sometimes made up of as many as 5 different silks, for different purposes, measuring as little as 0.000001mm thick. Much stronger than steel thread of similar diameter, spider silk will stretch by 20% of it's length before breaking.
  • It has been estimated that over 660,000 spiders would be required to produce 0.5kg of silk.
  • In one experiment over 150 metres of thread was obtained from a single spider.
  • A normal size mature (Orb Web) spider say 10mm long will spin a web approximately 15cm in diameter. Containing approximately 25 lateral threads totalling over 20 metres of silk thread. This monumental overnight engineering feat entails spinning silk 2,000 times its own length, simply to catch its next meal.
  • In exposed situations a single web may not survive more than 24 hours. The task begins again.
  • Spider silk has made great contributions to science through its use as "cross-hairs" in optical instruments such as transits, levels, microscopes and astronomical instruments.
  • Winds are the great transport systems for spiders and their silk thread parachutes and balloons. Special insect traps on aircraft have collect spiders from altitudes of nearly 5 kilometres and hundreds of kilometres from land.
  • Harvestmen (confusingly sometimes known as daddy long legs, also a name given to a true spider) look like spider but are not true spiders and belong to the order Phalangida. More than 3,000 species of the order have been catalogued.
  • An unusual characteristic of the species is their long legs which are designed to break along special points of weakness if held for an instant. This breaking is a process called autonomy. "He who pulls and breaks away lives to hunt another day", as the saying goes.
  • Note: The White Tailed Spider is also known as Whitetail Spider, Whitetailed Spider, White Tail Spider, White-tail Spider............
