A few fact about cockroaches to help gear you up for success
- Before you start an all-out war with the cockroaches in your home or business, it helps to understand their behaviour so that you can get the best results.
- They can transfer disease from drains and rotting material to food prep areas and toothbrushes, so it’s best to treat infestations as quickly as possible.
- They breed rapidly and can live together in family groups that may contain 100s of cockroaches. So, again the sooner you treat a problem, the easier it will be to control.
- Nests tend to be in dark, moist, warm places like under/behind fridges and freezers, cupboards, sinks, heaters etc, so make sure you target these areas when spraying and setting traps.
- It’s important to incorporate long-acting treatments like NO Cockroaches Nest Killer Spray, as it will remain active for months killing any new cockroaches that hatch after the initial treatment.
- Cockroaches feed on bait and feed it to others in their nest (cockroaches may even feed on other cockroaches that have died from consuming bait). So baits are an important part of the process as they kill more than just the cockroach that consumed it.
- Step 1: Bait
Using Kiwicare NO Cockroaches Nest Killer Gel Bait place small drops 30 cm apart where Cockroaches have been seen E.g. under fridges/freezers, ovens, under kitchen cupboards, etc.
Bait can be placed on clean jam jar lids or masking tape for easy removal. Check bait daily and replenish as necessary. Several small drops of bait are better than one large one; allowing more Cockroaches can feed on the bait.
- Step 2: Spray & Fumigate
Spray – Spray cracks and crevices where Cockroaches hide with Kiwicare NO Cockroaches Nest Killer Spray. E.g. cupboards, drawers, skirting, scotia, lino cracks, light fitting surrounds, behind fridges/freezers, cookers, ducting, and other warm, dark, moist areas. Avoid spraying onto fridge/freezer motors or electrical contacts.
The spray will remain effective for several months. It will kill adults and nymphs and the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) will break the life cycle by preventing development to the adult stage.
Fumigate - Then fumigate with Kiwicare NO Cockroaches Fumigator to treat places that cannot be reached with spray and to flush Cockroaches out onto sprayed surfaces.
Tips:
- Don’t spray near bait placements — you want cockroaches to freely take the bait back to the nest.
- Remove all dead cockroaches after treatment as females may be carrying eggs that could still hatch.
- Step 3: Trap
Trap and monitor Cockroaches using Kiwicare NO Cockroaches Traps. Place the traps in dark places; around or under fridges/freezers, under kitchen cupboards, in pantries etc. Check the traps regularly and replace when necessary or after 1-2 months. If your trap catches a cockroach, do not immediately throw it out and replace it. Leave it in place for three or four more days before replacing it. Trapped cockroaches tend to make the trap more attractive to other roaches and will increase the likelihood of trapping more.
Continue monitoring for the presence of Cockroaches at least 3 months after catching the last cockroach.
Did you know that our traps do not contain a toxin and are certified organic. This means that they can be safely used in kitchens, larders and other areas where food is handled or stored.
- Deny Cockroaches access to other food; wipe up spills and keep food in sealed containers.
- For Cockroaches in roof spaces or other voids use NO Cockroaches Fumigator in the voids.
