Mushrooms, toadstools and puffballs are the fruiting bodies of fungi. They are grown by the fungi to produce spores.
Mushrooms, toadstools, puffballs and other fruiting bodies are the spore producing growths from fungi. Usually the fungi are growing in soil, wood and other decaying matter. They are often found in lawns where they are found in circles of mushrooms known as fairy rings.
Fungi fruiting bodies such as mushrooms in lawns are often symptoms of decaying wood in the soil, perhaps dead tree roots.
It is not usually necessary to control mushrooms but some fungi can damage lawns and some are toxic if consumed accidentally.
