How to solve the problem
General Cleaning
- For general cleaning of dirt and grime from terracotta use SORTED Dirt and Grime which safely cleans all outdoor surfaces. This hose end sprayer is easy to use; simply click the pack onto the end of your hose, spray on the environmentally friendly and biodegradable cleaning formula and rinse off. Although SORTED Dirt and Grime is not likely to cause harm to plants it is recommended that desirable plants are wet with water before applying product to terracotta pots and then rinsed off again afterwards. For roofs where water is collected, disconnect during use and rinse thoroughly before reconnecting.
- SORTED Dirt and Grime removes mud, dust, salt residue, surface oil, bird droppings, insect poop, etc.
Removal of Moss, Mould, Algae and Lichen
- If your terracotta is stained with moss, black moulds, algae, lichen or other biological growth, use SORTED Moss and Mould. This powerful targeted formulation kills damaging moss, mould, algae and lichen. It goes on to protect the surfaces all season long. This hose end sprayer is easy to use; simply click the pack onto the end of your hose and spray on and leave, without rinsing off. SORTED Moss and Mould penetrates the surface killing the damaging organisms and they will them weather off over time. Be aware SORTED Moss and Mould may harm plants. Avoid applying where plants or soil around plants would be contacted by spray. If water is collected from your terracotta roof for domestic use, disconnect from collection prior to application and do not reconnect until significant rain (20 mm) has rinsed roof.

Helpful tips
Prevention
Terracotta is prone to the growth of algae, mould, moss etc. because its porous surface retains moisture. Terracotta can be further damaged by frost when the water in the clay freezes and cracks the terracotta. It is possible to treat terracotta with Kiwicare NO Leaks Red Brick and Terracotta aerosol (discontinued) to make it water repellent. This product still allows the terracotta to 'breathe'.
