The caterpillars of this moth live in silk bags that hang from trees and shrubs that they eat. They disguise the bags bug attaching pieces of twig and foliage.
The common name of this insect refers to the strong silk bag made as a refuge by the caterpillar. The bag is brown to greyish, often covered with fragments of vegetation, and so tough it cannot be torn open easily.
The female bagworm moth is a striking iridescent blue with orange wing tips.
